So, here’s a question for you:
What are abs?
Well, they’re typically what we call the muscles going from your sternum to your hips. They’re those rippling little muscles frequently synonymous with what we find attractive.
But that’s not all they are.
Abs are also the result of skipping out on the nightly glass of wine. Abs are the decision to go to the gym after work rather than going home and watching Netflix. Abs are the time you spend meal prepping instead of ordering pizza.
Abs are a lot of things.
And most people genuinely believe that they want abs. But they don’t. They just want part of the equation, they don’t want everything that truly comes along with them.
It’s like saying I want a college degree, but I don’t want to study. Wanting a relationship, but not wanting to be locked down. Or wanting a car, but not wanting to make the monthly payments that come along with it.
Being the shredded fucker on the beach is great, posting a picture on social media of your new car is validating, and hanging that new degree on your wall is really rewarding.
But before any of those high points are a million other points that, for lack of subtlety, kinda suck dick.
Weirdly enough, it’s the miles and miles of dick sucking that tend to give those high points their value in the first place. Not everyone will bear the load, but those who do are rewarded.
And if that’s not something you want?
That’s totally okay.
Like, seriously. It doesn’t make you smaller, or any less, or whatever hateful shit T-Nation decided to post on their Instagram today. It’s just important to be aware, rather than moping around feeling depressed about not having something you don’t even want.
So next time you find yourself jealous of someone that has something you don’t, ask yourself:
Do you actually want that thing?
Or do you just want to brag about something you never earned?
Happy earning,
— Nick .
